Birdlands Posted Tuesday, 24 April 2007 |
| | | Our third place was at a bird sanctuary called Birdlands in an area named the Banks Peninsula - a volcanic landscape just outside Christchurch. We worked for about 4 hours a day doing all kinds of stuff like gardening, chopping down trees, buliding stuff etc, plus quite a lot of childminding (two kids ages 4 and 2). I asked their mum Laurie what the rules were and she said 'just keep them alive'. With that brief in mind we embarked upon the singlularly most exhausting job we've done so far! We did manage to keep them alive though, with only a bare minimum of cuts and bruises.
The weather is MUCH colder the further south you go, so we went from swimming in the sea at the Lazy Fish to wearing thermals here. With that in mind we switched placements to another business that the owners of the Birdlands have, in Christchurch itself. We were promised accomodation in a proper house and everything... | Comment on this entry | | Diary engine © pineapplecharm.com, 2005-2024 I want one! |
