The Harbour
Posted Wednesday, 07 March 2007
We were met off the 12-hour train journey by Ria’s friend Ben, who dragged himself up to meet us at 7am and probably really enjoyed the hour he had to wait when the train was delayed.

There’s absolutely loads to see in Sydney and we packed in as much as we could in five days. The most incredible thing has to be the Harbour; it’s one of the most amazing sights either of us has ever seen. It’s beautiful and so iconic! We took about a million pics, which we’ll be happy to bore you with on our return.

We did lots of the obvious stuff: walked over the bridge; did a couple of ferry journeys; swam at Bondi beach; looked around the botanical gardens and watched the fruit bats; stared at the Harbour LOADS, and all of it was fab. One particularly special day was when we went on a tour of the Blue Mountains (the mountains behind Sydney) that are also a series of national parks. We trekked through a part that was ancient rainforest, at which point the heavens opened and it chucked down more heavily than the guide could remember happening before, and a load of waterfalls suddenly appeared in front of us, pouring over the cliff face. It’s been dry for so long that they’d dried up years ago. It was so much fun. We saw a lot of exotic creatures that day: kangaroos; cockatoos; outrageous-looking creepy crawlies; and several drag queens. We saw the latter in the club where some of Pricilla was filmed, though, and not in the rainforest.
